Air Quality Update and Restrictions in Mexico City

Holy Week 2025 has come to an end and thousands of vacationers have returned to Mexico City to resume their daily routines, needing to be alert about the restrictions of the Hoy No Circula program this Monday, April 21.

During the past weekend, air quality was affected due to an anticyclonic circulation system that limited air mobility. Despite the increase in traffic on roads and the use of vehicles in CDMX and the State of Mexico on Sunday, April 20, authorities expect an improvement in air quality for this Monday.

According to the Atmospheric Monitoring System, air quality in Mexico City is reported as "acceptable" in 10 boroughs and as "good" in the remaining ones. On the other hand, in the State of Mexico, air quality is "good" in most municipalities, with only two areas considered "acceptable." A maximum temperature of 29 degrees Celsius is expected in the capital.

Authorities have indicated that the environment will be very hot this afternoon, with possible light rains and partly cloudy to cloudy skies. It is recommended to follow the guidelines of the SGIRPC Early Warning System to stay informed.

The updated report from the Atmospheric Monitoring System indicates that some boroughs of CDMX and municipalities in the State of Mexico show poor air quality, with high UV radiation levels and winds that could reach up to 45 kilometers per hour.

Precautions are advised, especially for sensitive groups such as children, the elderly, or individuals with respiratory or cardiovascular diseases. It is important to mention that the Hoy No Circula program applies today, restricting the circulation of vehicles with yellow stickers and plates ending in 5 and 6, holders of hologram 1 or 2.
